Tonight the St Albans Planning Committee finally voted on the Shafford Fields floodlights, insisting that very strict time-limit conditions are applied, plus shielding must be installed in the next 3 months in the hope that the glare becomes barely noticeable. Filmed from over a mile away, the intense glare is visible from several sq. miles across the Ver Valley. This is a historic Green Belt Landscape Conservation Area. The encroachment and visual impact harms the openness of the landscape. An overriding principle of the National Planning Policy Framework is to prevent inappropriate development on Green Belt.
